Dr K. Kasturirangan is a renowned Space Scientist whose core areas of expertise include astrophysics, space science-technology and scientific policy-making. He is currently serving as the Chairman of Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) as well as the Chancellor of Central University of Rajasthan, apart from several other distinguished positions with various research-based and government organizations. His key accomplishments include steering the Indian Space programme, as the Chairman of ISRO between 1994 and 2003 and the development of new generation spacecraft, INSAT-2 and the Indian Remote Sensing Satellites (IRS-1A and 1B) as well as scientific satellites. He has received several prestigious awards and recognition including the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, Brock Medal of International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing as well as Allan D Emil Memorial Award of the International Astronautical Federation.
